RAF Leuchars Airshow 2012
Details
PlanesTV was once again commissioned to produce the Official DVD and Blu-ray for what is now the only RAF ‘At Home’ day at the important anniversary date of victory in The Battle of Britain. The clouds cleared and the sun shone for what turned out to be an action packed show.
RAF Leuchars is a front line fighter station and No 1 Squadron celebtated their reformation at Leuchars with a parade and a 9 ship stream take-off and formation flyby. The solo Typhoon, the explosiveTornado Gr4 Role Demo, a rare E3 Sentry display, Chinook, Hawk, Tucano and of course The Red Arrows delivered an impressive RAF line up,
RAF history came courtesy of Vulcan, Vampire, Meteor, Spitfire, Hurricane. Other rare historical gems included Lockheed T33 from the Norewegian Air Force. Vietnam veterans, the Huey and Loach helicopters contrasted with the giant B52 bomber on static display and flying. Sea Fury gave the navy a presence and SE5a reminded us of the 100th anniversary of the Royal Flying Corps.
Add some accomplished aerobatics from The Blades, the Trig Pair and Rich Pargeter’s mad Pitts display and, with the great weather, you have a truly vintage RAF Leuchars event.
