In September 2016 IWM Duxford hosted their Meet the Fighters Air Show. In commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the formation of RAF Fighter Command, the show presented a varied mix of historic fighter aircraft displays.
The appearance of The Great War Display Team was a poignant one, 2016 being the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme. We’ll get an on board view for an idea of the exposed nature of early air combat.
Taking us into the jet age, the Norwegian Air Force Historical Squadron presented 2 Vampire aircraft alongside their Soviet-designed contemporary, the MiG-15.
Rounding off the historic element of the Meet The Fighters Air Show were no fewer than 14 Spitfires flying in formation and tail chasing over the airfield… And bringing the event to a close, unrestricted in beautiful weather conditions, the Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team, The Red Arrows.
